The state has been clamping down on forms of a historical research, writing presentation that would build an independent collective memory. It's only by disseminating the idea that ukrane really is part of us er, that the regime is able to sustain popular support for the war. Most russians simply go along wth this narrative and say, well, he's just doing what needs to be done because ukraine is part of russia. They can still relate to this propaganda version of their history because theyv lived side by side with ucranians, married to ucranian,. therefore don't see it as a separate country.
