The Uneasy Tension of Christianity From the Beginning

He clearly intended the letters to be read and reread, so they do take on a scriptural flavor. By then first Corinthians is well on its way to being a kind of scriptural book on a par with the Old Testament. Early Christian writers often quote the New Testament more than they do the old.
