A freight train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed and exploded in East Palestine, Ohio on February 3rd. The National Transportation Safety Board released preliminary findings indicating that the derailment was caused by a mechanical issue on one of the cars axles. In an effort to prevent further explosions, Norfolk Southern conducted a controlled release and burn of five tanks of vinyl chloride into the air. Residents within a one mile radius were evacuated and a massive emergency response from agencies across three states was initiated. Although toxins were detected at the derailment site, they were not detected outside the area. This story has fascinated social media for number one, how little comparative media coverage that people believe it has gotten and the fact that residents have returned
