Life on the Street Versus Life in an Institution
Many of the people that you look at in the book are weighing up basically a life on the street versus a life in an institution. Yo, tell us a bit about that dilemma. There are maybe revisionist historians who really want to make the claim that the workhouses weren't that bad. But i think from most people, life is a safer existence. You'll probably come up with some rempretitive strain injury, overtime if your if you're doing some of the labour in there,. The risks on the street are probably just as great to your physical health. And it's that sense of having any mastery over your own life and own existence it really matters.
