What Is a Library?
For for us, a library is any collection of texts purposely assembled. And so it's the collection which makes a library, not the building. We've come to value books differently in that we now er think nothing of having several hundred, several thousand books in a collection. The privilege of owning books is one confined to the very rich and this is even though we see one of the first great medium shift when you move from papyri,. where raw material is only available in a very restricted area, to parchment on animal skins.
