There were groups like er for catsy, a federal body for aboriginal torrestrate islanders. There was advancement leagues in olther states pushing for more rights for aboriginal people. One of them was charliey perkins, who became famous because he was taken by the anglicans from alice springs to be schooled in adelaide. He later becomes head of the aboriginal affairs department in the federal government after about 20 years in the public service.
