A Potted Biography of Jane Austen

Jane Austen was born at Stephenton in Hampshire on December 16th, 1775. She spent a brief time at school with her sister Cassandra who is famous for painting the only portrait believed to be from life of Jane Austen. In 1811 Sense and Sensibility's her first novel, but she publishes anonymously. And then unfortunately her health declined quite early on; she dies at the age of 41 on July 18th, 1817 - you can find her grave in Winchester Cathedral.
