The Last Man in 1826 by Mary Shelley
Shelley and her work really encapsulate a moment of shifting in society between the importance of religion and the importance of science. And it's not just Frankenstein, because Mary Shelley went on to write The Last Man in 1826 - which people have been reading very closely in the last two years. In other words, everyone kind of dies off and you have one figure. It's very spooky to read.
