How to Write a Four-Gig File on a Disk Drive
When designing a new system, you start thinking about how you might do this. Underneath is like, i would probably pick a size, like four gigs, and i want just allocate that size on disk. And then as soon as i hit that limit, i've already got that next four gigs allcated and opend,. And in that point, i can drop my pointer to the file that i had opened, and can exit it. Another process can come along and take a look at older files at some point whenever it chooses, and can go through and kind of clean things up compact. That's really powerful.
