The E-WOM system is now the last point I was able to track it, being used in the US military command in Latin America and potentially elsewhere. It's impossible for us to know how it's being used if those accuracy claims are in fact reliable because the algorithms are proprietary. The basic reason is that there is this fundamental tension between expertise and democracy. We are enticed by expertise in policy spaces because expertise is associated with objectivity. And so the social sciences come to appear as this value-free policy tool.
