Can a Company Force a Trend?

Facebook has decided to depreciate, you two videos in their news feed. I'm wondering whether r not this single move from a company with the audience as big as they have on facebook, is actually creating a trend. And then let's talk about video, because i'm kind of intrigued by it. With the new mur cat or mere cat and everything else that's going on with video. Ye, think that companies alone don't make trends, but they can be a major factor and why something becomes a trend.
