Abdullah Mottadi is a curd from the mountainous northwest of Iran. His father was a minister in the short-lived Kurdish self-styled Republic of Mahabad. Kurds have complained of repression of their culture, language and identity. Last September's death of young woman Masa Amani sparked mass protest across country.
