The Fbi Can't Get a Search Warrant on a Phone
The fbi can't get a search warrant on its own. They have to providea sworn affidavit with enough evidence in it to establish probable cause that that phone contains evidence of a crime. It's also the case thatas as i think you noted earlier, a number of people have been sapined for their phones,. The government probably felt there was some reason why they couldn't trust serving a sapina on lindel to actually get his phone unaltered. We don't know what thecircumstances are with respect to mister lindel. None of us knows, but obviously somebody at the department of justice felt that a search warrant was the appropriate way to proceed here
