Metallica have been left behind by the kids that they inspired metal music has moved so far beyond this in its sophistication and technique. i think you can only blame james and lars so much for that at this point it seems to me rob is not stepping up creatively speaking as like a team player in the band he's still killing it according to my interview with him on npr real. maybe we're just three bitter old white men and everybody should ignore us but it's definitely true that if you want to reach a lot of people your best bet is to do that with a great song not a great new flashy guitar technique or whatever and metallica remains better at writing songs
