The Transition From Trading Enterprise to Colonial Enterprise
The shift from trading enterprise towards colonial enterprise a taking place around the same time as many of these developments. We see, for the first time, large numbers of members of the gentry, or landowners in england, being able to invest in these overseas activities. And that's a huge difference. While merchants do increasingly lose out, sort of on a governmental level, in these colonial enterprises, they are and ever present group within these activities.
