The Meaning of the Saa Off
In Numbers 21, God sends a bunch of serpents against the people to punish them. When Moses fashions it, he's going to fashion it on a bronze and mount it on a pole. Serpents were associated throughout the ancient Near East with healing. In Egypt, snake amulets would be worn by the living or the dead to ward off venomous snakes.
