Risk of self-audits without clear standards is a real risk here. Sometimes these audits could legitimize systems that shouldn't even exist in the first place and could be based on pseudo-scientific concepts. Facebook civil rights audit can sometimes be sold as sort of compliance with norms or principles but if there's no enforcement or accountability afterwards, they are pretty toothless.
