The Cost of Allocating Memory
If the memory manager is going to be using memory once you finish the operation you get rid of the old memory and the allocation is probably going to happen in the exact same place. If you're if you're throwing out everything at the end of each step and then restarting the step again it should be possible for the allocator to give you that same memory pretty much well.
