Some went visiting and dispensing their remedies, but these only demonstrated through their patients deaths that their art was nonsense and false. If you type the word plague into gugle images, the very first picture that pops up is of a doctor wearing a distinctive beaked plague mask. I think it's always interesting to think about the things that people would have done based on their understanding of what was happening.
