The Endosymbiosis of the Mitochondria
The notion is that the our ancestral, our ancestor eukaryotes existed without mitochondria. And then there was this endosymbiosis event where basically that ancestor, population ancestors engulfed a bacteria. So if we put this eukaryotic ancestor together with the arkial ancestor, that's sort of the question this builds from on the mitochondria side.
