The Growth Paradigm of the 1970s
Growth paradigm went into crisis in the 1970s, and then there became a widespread sort of neoliberal class offensive amongst the capitalist class to push austerity for the sake of growth. And one of the reasons they did that, though, was to take the edge off demands for redistribution. Since the 70s, they've been promoting this vision that ultimately this sort of fossil fuel growth based society has to be scaled down dramatically. That has led into what we now call degrowth,. which is really gained in prominence, I would say, in the next energy crisis we face with the commodity boom around 2008.
