The Story of Joe and Lai
The Joe family was one of those that once had it good, but China in the last half of the 19th century couldn't have been more down on its luck. Three women were chiefly responsible for Joe and Lai turning out to be who he was. One was his mother, Wang Dong-Ar; other was his adoptive mother, Lady Chen,. Last there was his wetners, who we know as Jiang. Each one played their critical role in Joe's earliest days with his education, teaching traditional Confucian values, and all aspects of Chinese culture.
