The Dual Challenges of Designing Acupuncture Studies

The problem is in designing acupuncture studies to mimic real world acupuncture, you very rarely get treated with one acupuncture needle. And so perhaps when you get three, four, five needles in, and even if they're missing the nodes, they're hitting single strands, you can get a cumulative effect. We don't know what the mechanism, the real, just talk about mechanism, how acupuncture relieves pain. But like I said before, a mechanism means we know how we know all the steps between putting that needle in and getting to the point where that immune system marker is increased or decreased.
