Fiscal constraints from weak nominal GDP

Yesterday in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her ninth consecutive Union Budget, covering the period from April 2026 to March 2027. This budget comes at a time when questions are being raised about India’s actual economic growth, concerns over US tariffs are looming large, and the government continues to shoulder the responsibility of stimulating the economy.
