There is a kind of explicit and implicit application of force throughout the story that I'm interested in. They're also saying, there's only a don't kill them, it's all right to beat them if they won't become Christian. And you can certainly put up their rents, that's perfectly all right. If you've got pagan peasants who won't have any of it, then charge them a bit more,. That's fine. The documents were meant to be destroyed, but a few survive. In fact, I've used them for teaching since the 1990s because they are amazing.
