The Effects of the First World War on Families
In the 19 21 census, over 16 thousand people have recorded themselves as divorced. The number of children below the age of four has never been lower than since 18 81 at this point. There was a rise in the number of marriages before the war but then if you combine that with the lower birth rates, the average household is decreasing and families are readjusting. Women leaving work hat they had been performing also contributed to an economic dislocation after the war. But we do see some shifts in the dynamic because many women are now leaving the factories for other jobs.
