Introduction
The ottoman empire was based on what we now describe as turkey and the middle east. It originated with the turkoman war lord osman in 12 99, right at the end of the thirteenth century. With the escape of the last ottoman caliph through a gate in the walls of a into a motor car and off into exile it was the end of their 700-year reign. To talk about the ottomans and how they've been depicted is professor of international history mark bear. He has written a brilliant book in which he really tells a different story, re defines the ottomonans for us to day.
