The Importance of Nuance in the Cold War

There were so many incidents in the Cold War where we seem to have got through and avoided nuclear war, just down to luck. The most famous is probably the incident in the early 80s with Stanislav Pertro, who's known as the Man who saved the world. So sheer good luck had status of petrov on duty that night. Right. And I suppose it's hard to have nuance in a period where things have become so extreme. But then, of course, all arose again in the 80s.
