Western ethics tends to be p f c centered, see all about cognitive control and rationality. The forms of early chinese philosophy that i am interested in were about loosening the hold of the p f c in various ways. For them, the ideal way of acting was not purely p f c based. And if you were actually exerting self control, that meant there 's something wrong with you, like an you weren't fully virtuous.
