The History of the Roman Calendar
The Babylonian way of telling time would be prominent with them and throughout the ancient Near East. The Romans found politically, if you could fudge days, erase them or shuffle them up, you could start making political terms longer or shorter based on how you wanted to account for 50-plus days a year. And it was an Egyptian who brought this to the attention of a famous Roman leader: Cleopatra.
