There were two days in the second week of the Cuban Missile Crisis when war seems a real possibility. The first big question is will Khrushchev respect the blockade, or will Soviet ships and submarines try to push through the blockade line and continue on for Cuba? Had they done that, there would have been a war on the seas, and therefore maybe World War III.
