Is There a Different Way of Understanding Time in the Middle Ages?
In the middle ages, especially mediaevala, medieval christians in europe saw time as a circular thing. They didn't see it as linear but there werere things that happened before other things and things that would happen after certain things. The way you see historians of the ninth century talk about the carolinian empire is one mimics that biblical narrative. It's not that they thought that what was happening thousands of years ago was exactly the sameitas what was happening in their own time. So again, it's complicated, it's massy, and we need to understand things on a more local basis.
