The Aesthetic of Animal Life

In a new essay, John Portman argues that the universe is first and foremost an aesthetic thing. He says we have to bring back this idea of cosmos in the city of beauty because according to Hillman, the thing we've actually repressed in the modern world is beauty. The goddess whom we've repressed and we refuse to acknowledge is Aphrodite. In urban engineering, the way our cities are designed, very little consideration is given to the beautiful. Beauty is ornament. It's like the cherry on the cake making it look tastier.
