The History of Auschwitz

Auschwitz was started in the spring of 1940 under the commandant Rudolph Höss as a concentration camp. It was designed to terrorize and imprison Polish political prisoners, not Jews specifically, but Poles. But Auschwitz' role begins to change when Soviet commissars are brought to the camp during 1941. Around about 1,100,000 people were murdered there.
