Why Belgium Embraced European Integration So Enthusiastically
Belgium was always a driving force behind european intigration. They realized in the fifties and sixties that the great age of legacy industry was over. You could not maintain this nineteenth century capitalism in a twentieth century world. So unlike some of the other great capitalist nations, for example, britain, there is very little euro sceptic sentiment both in the elite and in the population at large. And almost in a cognitive sense, it seems absolutely impossible for belgians to ever contemplate leaving this system.
