The French Slavery System
When the revolution breaks out in august 17 91, there are only 465 thousand captive africans remaining. But remember that the french had imported nearly 900 thousand. So they've created this tripartite society, the french have, but in which they're going to be vastly outnumbered by all people of color. And so what do they do? They institute draconian punishments. It's the violence that the french are using in order to maintain this syst were theyre vastly outnumbered.
