This was actually a practice that was done like 10 plus years ago. It's more common now that if organs aren't replaced, the body cavities would be filled with a cotton. The most common theory around why newspaper over cotton was used in this specific case isn't like anything to do with some kind of controversy. Like the funeral home was cleared of any legal wrongdoing.
