Was He a Schmuzer?
He was very stiff in public gatherings. But he is not like a a henry clay, for instance. Henry clay would give these great, stentorian speeches that would take up three days of the senate's time and the ladies of washington will come and watch because it was a spectacle. Madison wasn't like that. If if he were in the room doing a podcass you'd have to turn the volume way up on cause he had a very low voice. That was really his distinguishing feature as a politician. His understanding of politics as sort of a rich ecosystem with lots parts to it. And that's something that we're losing as our politics kind of gets nationalized.
