Whales in the Early Mediaeval Period
In early mediaeval sources, the most common depiction of a whale is as a demon. But when we get into the late mediaeval period, there is a sudden kind of shift and whales are depicted as potentially exploitable species which might be useful for people. Are not just sort of leviathans, but also as potentially exploitable species. And perhaps in the era before the mass whale huntings, and there would have been just an unprecedented amount of wild life out there. That is fascinating.
