The Ten Commandments: The Witness
Testimony is the first time this word is used in scripture. It is a memorial of peace, something you can point to and say, I have peace with you because of that. When Laban comes to Jacob, he says, we are going to make peace, it is okay. That pillar and that heap of stones will be called a witness. The second time it is used is in the Ten Commandments when it says, thou shalt not spare false testimony against your neighbor. And then it says, if a wild animal ripped the donkey apart while they were on their camping weekend, then you need to bring the carcass of the donkey as evidence witness.
