The Importance of Buffers in Russia
After the Cold War, Russia made itself very comfortable within its existing borders. The idea that they just woke up one day and decided to a next Crimea out of nowhere is not based on any strong evidence. It's so that it's being threatened by NATO, so it then nexted it to be able to control this territory themselves. This is what a status quo power does.
