The Role of Race in Nursing's Academic Project

Nursing education was segregated in the Jim Crow South and heavily circumscribed by racial discrimination in the North. Black, indigenous, and other women of color, as well as men, regardless of race, face significant barriers accessing undergraduate and graduate nursing education. These barriers meant that nursing's academic project was advanced primarily by white female nurses.
