This has created a "revolving door" relationship in funding and misleading information. Vinnie believes that most people want to do the right thing but are ignorant of the facts. (10:00) Even a big percentage of doctors have been misled. (16:00) Ivor shares what he has learned about cholesterol and how it works in our system. (17:00) He explains LDL, what to pay attention to, and why higher numbers do not necessarily mean high risk. Even when cholesterol is off, it's typically a sign of a different problem such as autoimmune conditions, insulin resistance, etc. (19:00) Vinnie asks if there's a time and a place where cholesterol would be a problem. (20:00) This leads to a discussion about statins and whether they are affecting the foundational problem. It's not the LDL that is the problem, it's damaging the LDL by eating a lot of sugars. (25:45) Certain numbers can indicate other issues instead. Your liver will always make the amount of cholesterol you need unless artificially forced to by a medication. (34:00) Ivor explains more about how cholesterol is an energy transport system. He explains a "party trick" experiment that Dave Feldman did. Low cholesterol isn't necessarily good because it depends on what it is caused by. Ivor gives an example of this with certain oils and plant sterols and stanols.
