The Unknown Soldier of the Black Watch
The tomb of the unknown warrior was established in 19 20. Four soldiers were dug up to encourage a sense of anonymity, from each of the four french battle fields. They were buried with all the pomp and ceremony that would normally be accorded only to a field marshal. The effect this had on all the people who attended or watched the procession is extraordinary. People actually believed that this, as it were, surrogate body was their loved one.
