This series follows on from stephen fry's victorian secrets. Why weren't the edwardians just a abhorring postscript to the victorians? What sets them apart? How did they shake off the dow of queen victoria? I think there are so many factors at play. One is the the man on the throne, a king edward the seventh. This was a man who grew up in the shadows of an overbearing, very critical mother and rebelled as the prince of wales. And when he assumed the throne, with his forty six inch waist and his numerous mistresses, he kind of really sets the tone for for this era.
