The Effects of Alcohol on the Brain
Alcohol slows down the rate at which your neurons fire and talk to each other. And over years of drinking like that, all the time, your brain learns to compensate for the depressant effect. That's one reason why alcoholics don't seem drunk a lot of the time. Their brain is compensating. If they quit drinking abruptly, they find that their brain is now hyperactive. You get the DTS, delirium trimmons, or seeing pink elephants.
