The Roman Way of Life at the Start of the Fifth Century
Discovery adds fuel to a debate that's been going on for quite a while now as to how far that view of a fairly rapid decline in the roman way of life actually stacks up. Julia and i were standing just outside of what is now known as room 28 at chedworth roman villa. It's not that much to look at now, just a bit of turf flanked by some low stone walls. But because of the results of some preliminary scanning work most in petworth, the national trust archeologist knew that there was a mosaic under the grass here in this room. He led an excavation with some willing volunteers to investigate further.
