The Importance of Being Boring

If you want to be interesting, you need to be boring. A life of creative work is about subtracting from your life distractions and obligations until you can actually get that work done. So the point is really to not try to act like an artist as much as do the work that an artist does. And so one young woman recently came up to me at a reading and said, I'm always that person who doesn't go to the pub with my friends. Some nights I stay at home and I write and you, your book kind of made me realize that was okay.
