The Importance of Morale in the Army
Everybody at some time or another, if you were in the army and male, female person, obviously, weren't in the trenches. The way they did it, the British in particular, had a fantastic system whereby, our battalion was about a thousand men. They circulated them all around like a gigantic jigsaw puzzle constantly going round and round. It's basically human nature. It gives you something to look forward to. This trenches murder. But in two days or two nights, I'll be out. You might not be because you might be dead, but at least you've got hope.
