Helen Gibson's Career in Hollywood
Helen Gibson was one of the first women to star in a Hollywood silent film. She rode horses as an extra in Western pictures and performed dangerous stunts. Her career took a hard left turn when she ruptured her appendix during filming for The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, starring John Wayne. After retiring from films at age 69, she continued performing stunt work until death.
